Certification Program FAQ

Do all DisplayPort products have to be certified?

Certification of DisplayPort devices and components is not required by VESA, but is highly encouraged. The DisplayPort Certified Logo assures end users that certified products will interoperate and provide a great digital display experience.

What about DisplayPort adapters….how are these certified?

DisplayPort adapters such as DVI, HDMI, and VGA are not included in VESA certification testing since these specifications either do not have an associated compliancetest (DVI, VGA) or have their own (HDMI).

How is the “DisplayPort Certified”logo to be used?

The DisplayPort Certified logo is designed to be used in product marketing communications…it is not designed for usage on products themselves.

Are icons available for manufacturers use to identify DisplayPort on components and products?

Yes, VESA has trademarked two DisplayPort icons that may be licensed from VESA for use on products toindicate DisplayPort capability: 1) an icon for DisplayPort, and 2) a multi-mode DisplayPort icon that indicates device support for both DisplayPort and either DVI or HDMI over the DisplayPort connector.

Once a device or component passes certification, can updates be self tested?

Yes, once a device has passed initial certification, updates to the device may be self tested.

How are embedded DisplayPort devices like notebook and monitor LCD panels certified?

The DisplayPort certification program is for devices and components that use external DisplayPort connections today. VESA is evaluating the need for embedded implementation certification.
